Canadian Elite Basketball League folds its franchise in Newfoundland

The Canadian Elite Basketball League is suspending operations of its franchise in St. John’s, N.L. after only one season, the league introduced on Friday.

CEBL commissioner Mike Morreale mentioned the choice to fold the Newfoundland Growlers franchise was made as a result of its house area, the Field House at Memorial University, lacked the facilities required by knowledgeable league.

The announcement got here two days after the league granted an enlargement crew to Winnipeg for the 2023 season. Winnipeg’s identify and emblem shall be introduced at a later date.

Morreale mentioned the Growlers may return to St. John’s below “higher circumstances” in the longer term.
