Feds announce funding for Earth observation satellites

Canada is saying new funding to assist launch a sequence of satellites that may assist monitor and reply to local weather change.


Francois-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, says Canada will contribute $200 million to the NASA-led Atmosphere Observing System.


The satellites are to look at how clouds, air actions, precipitation and atmospheric particles have an effect on local weather change — a significant supply of uncertainty in local weather fashions.


Champagne says the multi-satellite mission will enhance excessive climate prediction, local weather modelling, and monitoring of disasters.


The satellites are to launched in 2028 and 2031.


Thirteen Canadian universities are concerned with program, together with the federal government.
