An Ontario gymnastics coach has been acquitted on all sexual assault-related charges linked to his time teaching at a health club in Mississauga, Ont.
Scott McFarlane, 33, was charged in January 2018 for alleged behaviour with a 15-year-old feminine gymnast who he coached at Manjak’s health club.
McFarlane initially confronted charges of sexual assault, little one luring of an individual below 16, sexual interference of an individual below 16, making sexually specific materials accessible to an individual below 16, and indecent publicity to an individual below 16.
The acquittal was introduced Monday morning at a courthouse in Brampton, Ont. All proof within the trial is protected below a publication ban.
McFarlane, who stays suspended from teaching gymnastics in Canada, is an Ottawa native who has coached within the capital at Tumbler’s Gymnastics Centre within the east-end suburb of Orléans.
He was fired from that job due to alleged “inappropriate communications” with a 12-year-old feminine gymnast he coached, the health club beforehand confirmed. Those allegations have by no means been confirmed.
The causes for his departure weren’t shared broadly till after the charges had been laid in 2018.
