Health Canada has authorised Pfizer’s new bivalent COVID-19 vaccine to be used as a booster dose in these aged 12 and up.
The bivalent COVID-19 vaccine is an up to date model that targets the unique COVID-19 virus and the BA.4 and BA.5 strains of the Omicron variant.
It is the second mixture vaccine greenlighted by Health Canada’s vaccine evaluation crew, however the first that targets the virus strains that at the moment are commonest in Canada.
Last month, Health Canada authorised use of Moderna’s bivalent COVID-19 vaccine, which targets the unique virus and the primary Omicron variant, BA.1.
