Mexico’s Leslie Soltero claims gold on home soil at taekwondo worlds

The 2022 World Taekwondo Championships continued in Guadalajara, Mexico with Canada’s contingent unable to realize a podium end for a second consecutive day. 

On Tuesday, Mexico’s Leslie Soltero received gold on home soil following a victory over Serbia’s Aleksandra Perisic within the girls’s 67 kilogram remaining. Cecilia Castro Burgos of Spain and Milena Titoneli of Brazil, ousted within the semifinals, claimed bronze.

In the ladies’s 62 kg remaining, Chaari of Belgium turned world champion over Theopoula Sarvanaki of Greece. Aaliyah Powell of Great Britain and Feruza Sadikova of Uzbekistan secured bronze.

Serbia’s Mahdi Khodabakhshi captured his second world championship title within the males’s 87 kg remaining, having beforehand received for Iran in 2015. China’s Mingkuan Meng took silver whereas Nikita Rafalovich of Uzbekistan and Bryan Salazar of Mexico received bronze.

Watch the semifinals and finals of the boys’s 87 kg, girls’s 67 and 62 kg divisions at the World Taekwondo Championships from Guadalajara, Mexico.

Canada’s Ashley Kraayeveld, Melissa Pagnotta and Jordan Stewart didn’t advance to the boys’s and ladies’s medal rounds, respectively.

The competitors, which runs till Nov. 20, continues Wednesday with the boys’s 68 kg and ladies’s 49 kg semifinals and finals.
