Buckingham Palace says Queen Elizabeth will not attend the opening of Parliament on Tuesday due to mobility issues.
“The Queen continues to experience episodic mobility problems, and in consultation with her doctors has reluctantly decided that she will not attend the State Opening of Parliament tomorrow,” the palace said in a statement Monday.
Prince Charles will read her speech, which sets out the government’s agenda for the coming parliamentary session. Prince William will also attend.
The 96-year-old monarch has attended only a handful of public events in recent months, though she continues to hold virtual audiences regularly.
