Weakened by Fiona, iconic P.E.I. rock formation brought down by Nicole

Seven weeks after Teacup Rock toppled over in post-tropical storm Fiona, one other iconic coastal landmark on Prince Edward Island has succumbed to the forces of nature.

The sea arch at MacKenzie’s Brook in P.E.I. National Park close to Cavendish collapsed on Sunday morning after heavy winds and rain from tropical despair Nicole.

Like Teacup Rock, it was a preferred space for photographers and sometimes featured in P.E.I. tourism brochures.

Timothy Gallant, who lives in close by Rusticoville and has photographed the arch many instances over time, went to see for himself when he heard that it had collapsed.

“It was bizarre to see that gap fully opened up,” he stated.

The north shore of P.E.I. suffered in depth injury throughout Fiona, and elements of the nationwide park stay closed to the general public throughout restoration efforts.

Gallant stated the arch began as a small gap, and yearly — and after each storm — he would discover it getting bigger.

“When Fiona went by, it took a pleasant little chunk out on the right-hand facet of it and that type of weakened the construction much more, after which we had Nicole over the weekend … and I assume with the heavy rains and winds that we had during the last couple days was the final straw.”

The formation was an enormous vacationer attraction. Gallant stated he would usually see tour buses pull up and other people come out to take photographs.

“It’s going to look approach totally different after they come again this 12 months.”

Gallant, not less than, can have outdated footage of the arch to cherish.

“At sure elements of the 12 months, sunsets and sunrises, it modifications throughout the 12 months and sometimes you may get the solar proper in gap and it seems to be wonderful.”
